About The Book: Slavery (Gulamgiri), written by Jotirao Govindrao Phule (1827–1896) in 1873, is a pioneering social and political critique of caste-based oppression in India. Written in Marathi, Gulamgiri is one of the earliest works in Indian social reform literature. It laid the foundation for anti-caste movements and inspired generations of reformers and activists.
